Started in 2004, Ilmor Marine Engines, LLC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ilmor Engineering Inc. Ilmor Marine Engines manufactures, supplies and supports a line of high-performance marine engines specifically designed for use in the extreme world of off-shore performance boats.
Ilmor Marine Engines got it's 'feet wet' for the first time in 2002 building engines for the “SuperCat” Racing Series of the American Power Boat Association (APBA). At the same time, Ilmor was assisting DaimlerChrysler in the development of the V-10 Dodge Viper engine. Ilmor’s engineers realized the potential to “marine-ize” the unique powerplant design of the Viper engine into high-powered V-10 boat engines.
The introduction of Ilmor’s 550-horsepower MV-10 550 engine in January 2004 created a sensation throughout the performance boating community for it's light weight, fuel efficiency, performance and reliability.
Striving for improvement, Ilmor’s team incorporated several engineering refinements and advancements, and in early 2005 Ilmor announced the MV-10 625, offering more horsepower per pound than any other engine in its class. This powerful engine boasts increased torque and an astounding 625 horsepower out of the same lightweight 800-pound V-10 package.
In 2006, Ilmor unveiled its third engine in the series, the all new race engineered 7-10, producing an unprecedented 700 horsepower at a blistering 6,300 RPM.
The 7-10 is hand-built to the same exacting engineering standards that have been a hallmark of Ilmor’s two decades of auto racing success and has brought new excitement to powerboating.
Powerboat P1 World Champions 2007 & 2008
Underlining the outstanding performance of the MV-10 range of engines, in 2008 the #99 Fountain Worldwide team, using 'stock' twin Ilmor Marine MV-10 625 engines, secured a second consecutive Powerboat P1 Evolution class World Championship.
Pilot James Sheppard and throttleman Craig Wilson took four victories and eight podium finishes in 11 races during the 2008 season, and became the first team in Powerboat P1 history to win back-to-back world titles in the Evolution class.
