Ryan Hunter-Reay Does it Again for Chevrolet! Wins Third Consecutive Race to Take Driver’s Points Lead 08 July 2012

TORONTO – July 8, 2012 - For the second time this season, a Chevrolet IndyCar V-6 driver scored his third consecutive win in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Ryan Hunter-Reay extended his winning streak from the ovals of Milwaukee and Iowa by taking the victory in the Honda Indy Toronto on the Streets of Toronto.

Behind the wheel of the No. 28 Team DHL/Sun Drop Citrus Soda Andretti Autosport Chevrolet, Hunter-Reay scored the eighth win of his career leading a race-high 36 laps of the 85-lap race on the 1.75-mile, 11 turn temporary circuit. On the final restart, Hunter-Reay was the leader, and made a textbook restart into turn-one to emerge at the front of the field. A final caution on lap 83 forced the race to finish under caution with Hunter-Reay in command.

“Well it really shows that this team can get it done on all venues,” said Hunter-Reay. “We are looking to make a championship run here no doubt about it. We are concentrated on every lap, every session and we are not getting ahead of ourselves at all. It’s a great group to work with and to win for DHL, Sun Drop and Chevrolet here in Canada, in Toronto, my mom is from Hamilton just up the road, so this is a special one for sure. Three in a row I just have to take this in.”

“What a great day for Ryan Hunter-Reay and Andretti Autosport,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager, IZOD IndyCar Series. “Congratulations to the entire organization on their win on the Streets of Toronto, and for winning three consecutive races. Today's hat-trick win puts Ryan in the lead of the driver's standings, as well as extends Chevrolet's lead in the IndyCar Series Manufacturers' Points Championship.

“With the level of competition in the IndyCar Series, it is gratifying to see the hard work and dedicated effort of everyone involved in the Chevrolet IndyCar V-6 program get rewarded with trips to Victory Lane. Ryan delivered such a strong drive today in combination with great execution in the pit, and managed to win the drag race on the final restart to seal the win. Now we go on to Edmonton and give it our best Team Chevy effort there.”

Chevrolet drivers scored three of the top-five and five of the top-10 finishing position in today’s race, the 10th on the 15 race 2012 IndyCar schedule. Tony Kanaan, No. 11 GEICO/MOUSER Electronics KV Racing Technology Chevrolet, continued his string of strong finishes with a fourth place finish today. Oriol Servia, No. 22 Valspar Panther/Dreyer & Reinbold Chevrolet finished in fifth place.

Helio Castroneves, No. 3 Penske Truck Rental Chevrolet, was sixth at the checkered flag, with JR Hildebrand bringing the No. 4 National Guard Panther Racing Chevrolet to the seventh-place finishing position.

Will Power, No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, who won three consecutive races earlier in the season, came into Toronto the points leader. But, debris on the track causing a flat tire, and contact late in the race relegated him to the 15th finishing position. He is second in the standings, 34 points behind Hunter-Reay with five races remaining.

Next on the schedule is Edmonton Indy on July 22, 2012 at Edmonton City Centre Airport temporary course, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Live television coverage at 2:45 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network. Live radio coverage will be on XM Radio Channel 94 and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 212. In addition, IndyCar live timing and scoring with the radio broadcast can be found at www.indycar.com.
