Graduate Electronics Engineer

We are looking for a full-time highly self-motivated Graduate Electronics Engineer to join our growing electronics and electric powertrain department.
You will work alongside our existing hardware and software teams helping to design and develop a wide-ranging variety of electrical and electronics systems ranging from race-car wiring through to sophisticated electric powertrain and engine control systems.

Primary responsibilities:
You will be working on the design of engine and e-motor control systems as well as any other hardware designs that may be called-for, in conjunction with the software and mechanical design teams. You will then take your designs through the prototype, functional test and production validation processes to ensure a safe and reliable product can be released and supported.

Essential knowledge and experience:
• Using circuit design and simulation software.
• Simulation and design of digital, analogue and power electronics.

Desired knowledge and experience:
• Motor inverter and high performance SMPS design and development.
• Magnetic machine and controller simulation, e.g. SimMechanics.
• Real-time embedded software design and development.
• Multi-layer PCB design for manufacture.

Requirements:
• A good degree from a first class university in electronic engineering or similar.
• Excellent concept analysis and problem decomposition skills.
• Must be able to work as part of a small team.
• A flexible approach to working hours and a willingness to travel at short notice.
• Honesty and integrity: With the appropriate support you must be willing to take ownership of every aspect of your projects, having a self-critical approach with a view to meeting all design targets.

Senior Electronics Engineer

We are looking for a full-time highly self-motivated Senior Electronics Engineer to join our growing electronics and electric powertrain department.

Responsibilities will include project management of a variety of mixed digital and power electronic systems. You will manage projects from requirements capture through project planning and liaising with software, mechanical and electro-mechanical designers. You will be responsible for all aspects of system analysis and design, test system design, testing, production and field-support.

Primary responsibilities:
Reporting to the head of department you will need to liaise with the customer, who could be internal or external, to generate a requirements specification and project plan.
You will be designing engine and e-motor control systems as well as any other hardware designs that may be called-for, in conjunction with the software and mechanical design teams. You will then take your designs through the prototype, functional test and production validation processes to ensure a safe and reliable product can be released and supported.

Essential knowledge and experience:
• Using circuit design and simulation software.
• Detailed understanding of good environmental design practices, thermal and mechanical.
• Best practice design for reliability, testability and manufacture.
• Experience with multilayer PCB design of digital and power electronics.
• Motor inverter and high performance SMPS design and development.

Desired knowledge and experience:
• Lithium battery management systems (BMS).
• ASIL-D compliance.
• RF best practice engineering (12 GHz/microwave).
• Engine and chassis control electronics.
• Magnetic machine and controller simulation, e.g. SimMechanics.
• Real-time embedded software design and development.

Ilmor Engineering has a successful track record in designing and manufacturing racing engines for the highest levels of motorsport, including Indy Car, MotoGP and Nascar. In recent years the business has been successfully expanding into new markets including mainstream automotive, electric vehicles, aerospace, marine and defence. As a consequence we are now seeking the following people to join our team: 

Manufacturing Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer who is able to produce CNC Programs for our Machine Shop, as well as having the ability to create effective methods of manufacture. This person will also assist with any technical issues in the Machine Shop.

You’re Challenge:
• To Produce CNC programs and supporting  information for the shop floor
• Ensure efficient and effective manufacturing methods are utilised daily where small batch based manufacturing and one off prototype work take place
• Professional interface with other departments
• Liaison with Designers, buyers, internal and external customers

Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience programming Hypermill CAD/CAM, as well as HNC / Degree or relevant precision machining experience.You will ideally come from small batch work or prototypes background within Motorsport or Automotive.

The successful candidate must possess the following:
• CATIA V5, Hypermill, Vericut
• Ability to undertake complex machining and programming in a timely and efficient manner
• Design suitable fixtures and bespoke tooling
• Experience of 3D CAD
• Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and engine systems
• Have experience in a continuous Improvement culture

EV Powertrain Technician

As a consequence we are now seeking the following people to join our team: 

EV Powertrain Technician

As part of the Electric Vehicle Powertrain team at Ilmor your primary tasks will be to rig, test and de-rig eMachines, eAxles, and Electric Drive Units for race and road projects, operate test rigs using defined test methods and DoE, and perform test cell maintenance.  You will work on a range of internal and external customer projects.  There may be an occasional requirement to work extra hours as projects demand and could be required to work shifts.


Applicants should have:
• An apprenticeship or HNC equivalent qualification in Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle or Electrical Engineering
• Experience of electric vehicle propulsion prototype systems
• Experience of electric vehicle motor development
• Experience of wiring harness assembly, modification and/or rectification
• Experience of operation and debugging of vehicle communication networks (CAN / FLEXRAY)
• Experience of fitting & removing instrumentation
• Knowledge of electric vehicle power management systems
• Knowledge of current electric vehicle powertrain technology and test methodology
• Computer literate including Microsoft Office
• Experience of electronics prototype assembly would be advantageous
