Lead Electrical and Wiring Technician

Ilmor Engineering are recruiting for a Lead Electrical Technician to head up the Electrical Assembly department and manage an exciting period of growth both in capabilities and capacity.

We have a successful track record in the technologically advanced design, manufacture, and production of race engines at the very highest levels of motorsport encompassing electric, hybrid and IC engine projects.  This role will support those projects through the design, manufacture and testing of wiring harnesses, sensors, actuators, test rigs and a wide range of electronic devices.

The responsibilities of the role will be to:
• Lead a small team, recruiting, developing, and mentoring to achieve potential.
• Liaise with external customers and internal engineers during the design and prototype phases of wiring, electronic and electrical systems.
• Build and maintain race and road car electrical looms, sub looms, sensors, and actuators.
• Lead by example to instil a continuous improvement culture within the electrical team.
• Adhere to premium safety and quality standards as well as carry out appropriate functional & dimensional inspections; keep comprehensive fault and test records; and manage the stock of electrical consumables.

You should be able to demonstrate:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in motorsport wiring and electronics assemblies.
• Experience of layout-design, manufacture and testing of small volume motorsport wiring harnesses using Raychem DR25, Autosport and Lemo style connectors.
• Competence in the design, assembly and running of component test rigs.
• Experience with Cirris harness testers.

• Additionally, knowledge of high performance magnetic machines (ideally within a motorsport capacity) would be desirable as would experience of re-working surface-mount and through-hole soldered components on complex PCBs.

Combined with this experience, it is essential that you possess:
- Excellent problem analysis, diagnostic and rectification skills
- A desire to mentor, coach and develop indirect and direct team members
- Understanding of and willingness to work to tight race schedule timeframes
- Flexible approach to working hours and a willingness to travel
